Ski jumper Selina Freitag won the first medal for the DSV at the Nordic Ski World Cup in Trondheim in a single competition from the normal hill.
After her dream jump to silver, clumsed in the snow on Friday, the dethroned world champion Katharina Schmid pulled her teammate up the opposite slope – and in the stands the big brother Richard almost proudly burst: Germany’s best ski jumper celebrated the greatest success of her career and the DSV team at the World Cup in Trondheim and the DSV team Get first medal in Norway.
“I am Megahappy. It is incredible that I could show such jumps here,” said the 23 -year -old Friday, who, like recently, had to give up only the Slovenian high -flyer Nika Prevc in a row in the World Cup.
For the Saxon, it was the first individual medal at a large championship. In 2023 in Planica, Friday won gold with the team and the mixed team. “Her self -confidence is currently making her strong, she made a huge job,” said national coach Heinz Kuttin.
Defending champion Schmid without an opportunity
After jumping to 99.0 and 103.5 m, Friday – which was traveled to Trondheim in her career without a World Cup victory – was quite significantly behind the 19 -year -old PrevC (259.2/98.0+100.0) with 250.8 points.
On Fridays they were familiar with the landing, they cost points again. “I’m not a landing cat,” she said. Third was Anna Odine Ström (Norway/246.6).
The defending champion Schmid had no chance. The record world champion, who is currently struggling with major technical problems, did not go beyond 19th place after a solid and weak jump. “My competition was not good – but I’m really happy for Seli,” said Schmid. The second best German was Agnes Reisch in tenth.
On Saturday, Friday, Schmid and Co. have the next medal chance in the team competition. “Today we will join in. And then we will focus on Saturday,” said Freitag.
Richard Friday proud of his sister
Friday had established itself in the top of the World Cup in the weeks before the World Cup. She was on the World Cup platform seven times this season. “It’s just nice to see how she developed,” said Richard Freitag in Trondheim on “ZDF” micro: “This is pure nature, just Selina.” He himself had won team gold twice at World Championships, but never won a single medal.
Nika Prevc won the first title at a Nordic World Cup for the Prevc ski jumping family. Her big brother Peter was vice world champion on the Großchanze in 2013 and, like Domen Prevc, had also brought three times World Cup gold while flying. The third brother Cene won in 2022 like Peter with Slovenia’s team Olympic silver.
The mood in the German team was reasonably depressed before the first competition. The evening before, Luisa Görlich was seriously injured again in the qualification. The 26-year-old had only celebrated her World Cup comeback after her second cruciate ligament tear in mid-February.
“Of course, the teammates busy that. But of course they have to focus on their competition – otherwise Luisa wouldn’t be helped,” said DSV sports director Horst Hüttel to the “SID”. On Fridays Coup was a small consolation for Görlich.
