Freund beats Geiger and Eisenbichler

On Monday the DSV-Adler had to prove themselves in the qualification of the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck. Severin Freund was able to shine on the mountain of fate.

In the past, the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck often brought the decision in the fight for victory in the Four Hills Tournament. Also this year the hill showed its pitfalls and special wind conditions in the qualification.

The best German was Severin Freund with 126 meters, he landed in sixth place. Markus Eisenbichler finished eighth with 119 meters, Karl Geiger finished tenth. The qualifying victory was secured by the Japanese high-flyer Ryoyu Kobayashi (126.5 meters), second was the Austrian Jan Hörl, and third was the Swiss Kilian Peier.

“It’s its own ski jump”

In addition to Geiger, Eisenbichler and Freund, all four other athletes also qualified for the Bergisel Jumping: Stephan Leyhe (24th), Constantin Schmid (25th), Andreas Wellinger (44th) and Pius Paschke (50th).

Severin Freund said after a strong jump over 126 meters on ZDF: “It’s a ski jumping hill of its own. It can help if you come up with a concept in the summer.” Geiger added after his jump: “Kobayashi sometimes jumps in his own league, but I don’t think he’s unbeatable.”

National coach Stefan Horngacher said on ZDF: “A good jump from Severin, Karl Geiger has improved. Everyone is qualified, that is satisfactory.” On Tuesday (1.30 p.m. in the t-online live ticker) the third of four jumping competitions is on the program in Innsbruck.
