French tourist (69) risks up to 3,000 euros in fines after trying to smuggle 40 kilos of sand from Sardinian beaches

On Monday, Italian customs stopped a 69-year-old French tourist as she tried to board a ferry. Officers found 40 kilos of sand, pebbles and shells that she had brought from the coast of northern Sardinia. Since 2017, it has been prohibited to take these items from Italian beaches. The woman now risks a fine of up to 3,000 euros.
