The director of the Lidl supermarket in Joigny, south of Paris, has gone on hunger strike to challenge his dismissal. He gets the support of his staff.

The man was fired after he took products from the warehouse for an amount of almost 90 euros for his own use. According to the director, he signed a “transfer” voucher. He had not yet paid it, but according to the man it was an omission. “I have a director position and a very nice salary, a company car, why should I steal for 89 euros?” it sounded.

The man was fired for serious misconduct and has now started a hunger strike. He was lying on a small mattress in front of the supermarket on Wednesday. The store’s staff have also been on strike since Monday.

At the beginning of this month, there was protest in our country at Lidl in Jambes, where an employee was fired because she had eaten a biscuit in the warehouse that had passed its best-before date.

There was also a strike here, but in the end the management and the person concerned reached an agreement.
