French football players leave Italy with no chance at the European Championship with 5-1

The French soccer players have impressed during their first match at the European Championship in England. National coach Corinne Diacre saw her team beat Italy 5-1 in Rotherham.

France already led 5-0 halfway through. Italy had nothing to contribute and saw Grace Geyoro score from close range in the 9th minute after a poor defense. Marie-Antoinette Katoto doubled the lead shortly afterwards. France created plenty of chances after that. It took until the 38th minute for Delphine Cascarino to make it 3-0. Geyoro scored twice before half time.

With a view to the continuation of the tournament, France no longer had to do that in the second half. Italy was spared an even greater punishment and saved the honor fifteen minutes before time through substitute Martina Piemonte (5-1).

Belgium and Iceland are the other countries in group D. They drew (1-1) earlier on Sunday. If the Dutch national team manages to reach the quarterfinals, the opponent will be from this group. The number 1 from group C (the group of Orange) plays against the number 2 from group D and the number 2 from group C against the number 1 from group D.
