Free up space on iPhone without deleting photos

More storage on iPhone without deleting photos or apps? TECHBOOK gives five tips to free up valuable memory.

iPhone storage space is a valuable commodity. Due to the missing memory card slot, it cannot be expanded later and every memory upgrade when buying the smartphone costs a lot of money. Many users are therefore traveling with too few gigabytes – and regularly have to struggle with full memory. So that this doesn’t happen to you, TECHBOOK has tips on how to free up memory on the iPhone without parting with photos or apps.

Automatically delete chat histories

If you send a lot of SMS and iMessages back and forth in the iPhone’s message app, a lot of data can quickly accumulate and take up the available storage space. Therefore, one should check how long the device stores these files.

If you choose “settings“, “news‘ and then tap ‘keep messages‘, then the cell phone reveals whether the chat histories will be deleted either after 30 days, after a year or never at all. The shorter you set the deadline before the messages are automatically deleted, the less data accumulates over time.

Before deleting old chat histories, however, you should save important photos and videos in the “Photos” app.

No more saving photos twice

If you take a lot of photos with the iPhone, it can quickly happen that photos take up a large part of the internal memory. And among them there can be an unnecessary number of duplicates. Because if you take a lot of photos with the HDR mode of the iPhone camera, then two shots are always saved at the same time. A normally exposed photo and the HDR version with a higher dynamic range. The more you photograph, the more storage space on the iPhone is eaten up unnecessarily.

To switch off this double saving, it is sufficient tosettings‘ of the iPhone. Then go to “Photos & Camera‘ and there to the point ‘HDR‘ and disable ‘keep photo“.

Delete local data from Netflix, Amazon and Co

Many video streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have a very handy feature. They allow you to download episodes of series or films and watch them without an internet connection. So you can slip in an episode of your favorite series or watch a movie on the plane or train, even if the WiFi on board is anything but reliable.

But have you also thought about deleting the downloaded videos from the iPhone after the last series marathon? So if you run out of memory again, it’s worth taking a look at the most frequently used video apps. Perhaps one or the other series is still slumbering in the downloads, which unnecessarily occupies storage space on the iPhone.

Clear browser cache

If you surf the Internet a lot with your iPhone, you also accumulate a lot of data. In the so-called cache, text and images from websites are stored locally on the iPhone so that they do not have to be downloaded from the network each time. However, this cache can also take up a lot of storage space on the iPhone over time. If you clear Safari’s cache, you can gain valuable megabytes.

To delete this data, open the settings of the iPhone and scroll to the point “safari“. Here you now select the point “Clear history and website data“.

Outsource apps in settings

You can find the option in Settings under General and iPhone Storage.

Here you can activate outsourcing. Then the iPhone or iPad automatically identifies and removes little-used apps. If you only want to outsource certain apps, then tap on the respective program below. Here you can then choose between “Storage” and “Delete”.
