Have you ever wanted to restore a crack in your pants or make your own clothing, but you have no idea how to do that? There are more people with that problem, but not everyone can pay sewing lessons.

Monique van der Veere of the Salvation Army in Hoogeveen noticed that there was a great need for sewing courses. “Sewing courses are very expensive and for a lot of people not affordable and therefore not available,” says Van der Veere. That is why the Salvation Army now offers this course for free.

The organization started the course more than a month ago. Marieke Venema offered himself as a volunteer to give the course. Every Monday from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm she gives sewing lessons to the participants.

“There are people who can’t do anything at all, we will help from A to Z,” says Van der Veere. But there are also students who can already sew very well, who just come for fun. So it doesn’t matter whether you can already sew or not, everyone is welcome. “If the group becomes too big to keep here, I split him,” says Van der Veere.

The organization previously made several calls for sewing machines, fabrics, zippers and other supplies. A lot of donations arose, but all donations are still very welcome.

“There are now 10 students and the majority of it has no sewing machine, it would be nice if we also have machines for that,” Van der Veere explains. The items can be returned to ‘At Bosshardt+’ in Hoogeveen, which is part of the Salvation Army. “If you are unable to bring your donation, we also want to come and pick it up with love.”
