With the traditional lighting the Christmas tree in front of the Obeliskthe City of Buenos Aires began its agenda of activities to celebrate the holidays. This event, which brought together neighbors and tourists, was accompanied by a mapping on the Obelisk and the interpretation of Christmas carols by Afrosound Gospel Choir and the singer German Tripel.

The Head of Government, Jorge Macriaccompanied by vice-chief Clara Muzzio and her family, highlighted the spirit of unity of this celebration: “The holidays are a time to value the good, to come together and share in a difficult context. We want to bring them a little of that affection and love that Christmas inspires in us.”

From now until December 26, the City is offering a extensive free programming in its 15 communeswhich includes cultural activities, themed decorations and spaces for the whole family. Here is a review of the main proposals:

The festive spirit extends through 50 blocks of the City with special luminaires. Christmas trees and nativity scenes adorn each commune, while icons such as the Planetarium and the Monument to the Spanish are illuminated in red and green. In addition, the railway bridges on Avenida Córdoba and Juan B. Justo, and on Avenida del Libertador and Dorrego, add allusive decorations.

5. Christmas district

The “Distritazo” initiative brings together 92 businesses from the Arenales and BAFA (Buenos Aires Fashion & Arts) areas. This event, which seeks to encourage Christmas shopping, will have themed decorations and spaces for photos from December 10 to 12, from 4 to 8 p.m.

The lighting of the tree, carried out on the Day of the Virgin, also marked the beginning of the assembly of the manger. Macri stressed the importance of valuing affection and highlighted Christmas as an opportunity for personal rebirth and unity: “In a complex moment, this holiday invites us to share what is most important: the love and affection of those around us.” With this free agenda, Buenos Aires consolidates itself as an attractive destination to experience Christmas magic with the family, recovering tradition and a sense of community in a festive context.
