Far too often, things that make someone else happy go into the trash. To do something about this, a market was organized in Tilburg on Sunday afternoon where cast-offs from the recycling center also get a second chance. From toys to crockery and from chairs to clothing: everything on the market could be taken home for free.
Even before the doors of the market in the Symfonie community center in Tilburg Noord open, there is already a long line outside. Once inside, the eager ‘bargain hunters’ immediately make their move.
Lisanne has already collected a whole mountain. “Look, how nice these cardigans are,” she exclaims enthusiastically. “And I also have two tops, pajamas for my daughter and a stool for her room.”
The market is almost immediately busy. “We think it’s great that a lot of different people come here,” says Saskia Peeters from welfare organization Countour de Twern. The organization organized the market together with the Brabant Waste Team.
“People with a small wallet, but also people who think it is better for the world not to buy everything new. The clothing industry is very polluting, so why wouldn’t you use clothes again and make someone else happy with them?”

A clothing market or flea market is often organized in the community center in Tilburg Noord. But it is the first time that the Brabant Waste Team has also delivered items. “They donated items to us that were taken to the recycling center, but that were still too good to throw away. We can now give them away for free.”
The aim of the market is mainly to give clothing and items a second life. An important reason for visitor Remco to come here. “There is already so much stuff in the world. Throwing it away is the last option. If there are things that can still be used, I will take them with me.”
His daughter Roby-Anne (7) is only too happy with that. She is beaming with a cuddly toy penguin in her hands. “I really like that I can pick out free stuff here. And I’m not done shopping yet,” she concludes with a laugh.
