Fred Kerley had to empty his tank in the heat of the 100 meters.

– Junior-like running for a superior man. When he ran the heat the way he did, the final was not easy.
That’s how Iltalehti’s expert begins his analysis of the men’s 100-meter final race Arto Bryggare.
Fred Kerley is the fastest man in the world, but he didn’t make it easy for himself. The winning time was 9.86, while the previous day’s heat was 9.79.
– Kerley’s end was extremely hard. He was able to forcibly bring the run to the finish line with his physics. But it doesn’t quite go well when the first set is pulled ten times harder.
Marvin Bracy (9.88) and Trayvon Bromell (9.88) guaranteed a triple win for the USA.
– The results are quite disappointing, both the men’s 100 and the length. Gold was obtained with very tame results, when the winning result in the length was 836.
Olympic champion Marcel Jacobs did the disappearing trick again. The giant from Makaroniimaa did not appear in the semi-finals of the hundred.
– If Jacobs was fit and healthy last season, he would have easily celebrated the World Championship gold.
The USA’s triple victory in the race that interests the USA the most is probably the hardest event of the World Cup for the host country.
– Will be the number one news on ESPN – even ahead of baseball and golf, Bryggare laughs.
A surprising background

In the previous world championships in Doha 2019, Kerley competed in 400 meters.
– He is a very special case, having gone from a super tough 400 meter runner to a 100 meter runner. Often it goes the other way around.
Kerley received gold in the 4×400 meter relay and bronze in the individual race.
– He has great top speed. Even in his World Cup final run, Kerley says that the last 15-20 meters of the hundred are decisive. He is the best in the world at them. If he is 60 meters ahead, he wins. Now he even won from behind.
How has Kerley’s, 27, training changed since the main sport has changed?
– He has not had to invest in an anaerobic base, because it is hard for a 400 meter runner. Pikkanen must have undergone accelerated improvement in the boxing gym. A little more roundness has been applied to the shoulder. For the first 10–20 meters of a sprint, you have to exercise significantly, Bryggare answers.
