Frank Wormuth released before relegation games

Sacked with immediate effect: Frank Wormuth is no longer the manager of Heracles Almelo. The first division team secured the relegation – but denied it without the German coach.

Coach Frank Wormuth was fired at Dutch first division club Heracles Almelo two games before the end of the round of points. After the last three defeats in a row, the club gave a lack of trust in the former coach of the German U20 national team for the upcoming relegation play-offs as a reason.

Co-trainer should ensure relegation

Wormuth had already announced his move to FC Groningen at the end of the season in winter. Since then, the 61-year-old’s team had gotten deeper and deeper into the relegation vortex and was ultimately unable to prevent falling into relegation. The previous assistant coach Rene Kolmschot should now secure the league.

Wormuth was in the service of the German Football Association (DFB) from July 2010 to August 2016, and the Berliner signed a contract in Groningen until 2025.
