It is the type of celebrity you really have to be able to handle: Francis van Broekhuizen. It irritates many people because it seems so exaggerated. Is she a TV type or not? “I’m really like that.”
Francis van Broekhuizen was on television so often during the corona period that she can never actually appear on television again without someone immediately saying ‘overkill!’ shouts. Initially people seemed to find her very authentic, but at a certain point that nice authenticity became very exaggerated. And that begged the question: is she a TV type?
TV character
Francis is annoyed when she is called a TV character. “If people only know me from the screen, they often think that I am a type. While in real life I am exactly the same. Always,” she claims in the Weekend.
What does she think when people think that about her? “People often have a negative feeling about the idea of a character. They think that I am exaggerated, talk too loud or am too busy. Yes, I am very often that way, but also very often not.”
Heave
Does Francis take the criticism seriously? “I have all kinds of sides, just like everyone else. The nice thing is that when people really get to know me, they always come around. Then they still like me, because I am generally very sweet and kind.”
How does she explain that many people think she is made? “It depends a bit on where I am. For every occasion I can put myself in the mode that is needed. I am fun with a funny quiz, but with a serious program I can give a very nice interview.”
Complicated
In other words: if people think Francis is a TV type, it is mainly due to their own limited world of thought, she concludes. “You can see different sides of me, because I am interested in many things. Some people find that complicated, because then you cannot be pigeonholed.”
Finally, how does she want to be remembered after her death? “I have a great career and live for my profession, but I actually just want to be remembered as a nice woman who was fun to work with and who, above all, had a lot of fun with. And that you might even have learned something from me.”
Learned what? At most mild hearing damage.
