France’s socialists call for Macron elections with pithy posters

PARIS (dpa-AFX) – With pithy slogans, France’s Socialist Party wants to mobilize the election of liberal President Emmanuel Macron in the runoff against the right-wing Marine Le Pen. “We all feel like saying shit, but towards the right-wing extremists – let’s vote ‘Macron’,” read one of the campaign posters published on Friday.

A statement by party leader Olivier Faure said the danger that the right could come to power was real. To prevent this, Macron must be selected. The published posters in white, red and gray use puns and are all structured according to the same scheme. First it is about the anger and disappointment of the electorate, then combatively about a behavior towards the extreme right. The choice for Macron follows at the end in smaller letters more as an afterthought.

Macron and Le Pen both qualified for the April 24 run-off in the first round of voting last Sunday. The socialist candidate Anne Hidalgo did not even get two percent of the vote./rbo/DP/he
