The 23-year-old decided to extend the expiring contract by three years. The new contract runs until June 30, 2025. The striker announced his decision after the French champions’ last game of the season on Saturday evening (May 21, 2022) against FC Metz.
Courted by Real, most recently for 200 million
This ends a month-long debate about the exceptional talent. Mbappé wanted to leave PSG last summer after superstar Lionel Messi was signed, for which he was booed by his own fans at the start of the season. He turned down a new PSG offer for a five-year contract with a reported salary of 50 million euros per season. Real made several offers for Mbappé, on the last day of the transfer window Real had offered over 200 million euros, but PSG declined.
Four championship titles and two cup winners
He became a superstar with the Parisians, but he and his star colleagues around Neymar and Messi did not win the longed-for Champions League title, despite the sheikh millions from Qatar. During his time in Paris, Mbappé won the French championship four times and the cup twice. In 2018 he became world champion with the French national team.
