Several types of homes, including apartments, are being built on the site where the Drost bakery in Zuidwolde was located for decades.
At the beginning of this year, the bakery on the Hoofdstraat was demolished, after the Drost bakery stopped operating a few years ago. The municipality of De Wolden has given permission for the construction of four apartments, six patio houses and four semi-detached houses on the vacant location.
These are owner-occupied homes, the new construction will be up to ten meters high. Construction is due to start in the middle of next year.
According to the municipality, the plans, which have now been available for inspection for six weeks, are in line with the environment. The part of the Hoofdstraat is described as ‘a recognizable and striking place in the green village center’. “The existing trees in the plan area will be preserved. The same applies to a large part of the existing lawn”, the plan states.
History must also be reflected in the new building. “The redevelopment is aimed at preserving the industrial atmosphere of the bakery with the shop on the Hoofdstraat side. This atmosphere is the inspiration for the new buildings.”
