Fourteen Greenpeace activists in court today…

A group of Greenpeace activists occupied the Fluxys gas terminal in Zeebrugge for hours on Wednesday, April 29. Five rubber boats entered the Fluxys site, according to the operator’s permission. The activists climbed onto the docks used to unload and load gas tankers. With the action, Greenpeace called for a stop to all new gas infrastructure and a European plan to phase out gas by 2035.

After the action, fourteen activists were arrested. The Bruges public prosecutor’s office decided to prosecute them through summary proceedings for invading the port. These are five Belgians, three Germans, two Austrians, two Dutch, a Frenchman and a Briton. Due to the aggravating circumstances, they theoretically risk up to a year in prison and/or up to an 8,000 euro fine.
