Four nature associations are appealing against the development of De Spie into a business park

The nature associations do not want the historic polder grasslands to disappear. It concerns an area of 42 ha that runs from the Boudewijn Canal to the port.

The permit is a result of the spatial implementation plan of the previous Flemish government, in which this space and also that on Blankenbergsesteenweg are open space to be developed. Groen vzw also successfully appealed to the Council of State against the plans for a new stadium. According to nature organizations, De Spie must be protected, especially now that the climate is changing. It will soon be up to Minister of the Environment Zuhal Demir to judge.
