Pius Paschke once again had to give way to the Austrians in qualifying for the New Year’s competition. The Alpine Republic takes first and third place.
After a day’s break, the ski jumpers continued with qualification for the New Year’s competition at this year’s Four Hills Tournament in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. And as in Oberstdorf, the Austrian jumpers were once again the measure of all things.
Jan Hörl won the qualification with 137.5 meters ahead of his compatriots Daniel Tschofenig and Jan Hörl. German tour hopeful Pius Paschke had to settle for ninth place with 133 meters.
Only the title doesn’t achieve quality
Karl Geiger jumped to a solid 133.5 meters and achieved a top ten place. Andreas Wellinger didn’t get into the flying position properly and landed at 130 meters.
Philipp Raimund improved significantly compared to Oberstdorf: the Allgäu native jumped to 133 meters. “It’s a weight off your heart,” Raimund sighed with relief into the ARD microphone. Stephan Leyhe also showed a better jump than at the start: the Willinger jumped 129.5 meters.
Eisenbichler with “Poker mentality” on the way
In addition to the jumpers from the squad, the DSV in Garmisch-Partenkirchen put the German Ski Association (DSV) on a national group and Markus Eisenbichler returned to the squad. The Siegsdorfer had problems with his flight, but still managed to reach 130 meters. “The poker mentality makes no sense at a time when the foundation is missing. That’s just a shame,” Sports show expert Sven Hannawald commented on Eisenbichler’s jump.
Constantin Schmid and Felix Hoffmann also benefited from the national group and fought for a place in the New Year’s competition. Luca Roth opened the qualification and jumped to 119 meters. Immediately after him, Schmid landed at a respectable 124.5 meters. Hoffmann did even better with 130.5 meters. They are also taking part in the New Year’s jump. Only Adrian Tittel was the only DSV eagle eliminated from the qualification with 120.5 meters.
Broken lift causes problems again
As in the previous year, a broken lift caused trouble for the ski jumpers. TV pictures showed several athletes f. during trainingFor the New Year’s jump, people tried to push open the elevator door with their hands and feet. “Somehow there’s a worm in there. In the end you can be happy that you get out of it,” said Hannawald. While at least the lift to the jump table was working, many jumpers had to walk the rest of the way to the jump. The lift in the ski jump tower had already failed last year and several jumpers had to climb the 332 steps.
