The fire brigade had to go to the Torhoutsesteenweg in Ostend on Wednesday afternoon. On the spot it turned out to be a fire on the first floor of the building. The affected apartment was declared uninhabitable, but nobody was injured. “There was also no wrapping to adjacent buildings,” the public prosecutor reports.
The public prosecutor appointed a fire expert. According to the first findings of the expert, there would be a deliberate arson. In those circumstances, the resident, a man of 44, was arrested that same day. After interrogation, he was brought before the Bruges investigating judge. He bouds him on suspicion of intentional arson.
On Tuesday, the council chamber in Bruges will judge whether he should stay in prison for longer.
