Felix Klaus (32) has come full circle: the right winger is leaving Fortuna Düsseldorf and returning to SpVgg Greuther Fürth, where he began his professional career. Klaus signed a contract with Kleeblatt until 2027. The transfer fee should be in the range of 100,000 to 150,000 euros. This season, the attacker scored one goal in 15 appearances for Fortuna.
“I am very happy that we got a player with his experience and quality during the winter break. Because both will help us to master the second half of the season well, with all the challenges that await us,” said sports director Stephan Fürstner, who played together with Klaus in 52 games for Fürth from 2010 to 2013. “I am pleased that we have another alternative in the offensive with Felix. He brings speed, quality in one-on-one situations and an active style of play and told us in our discussions that he was really keen to return to Fürth.”
Klaus was trained in the Fürth youth team for four years before making his professional debut in November 2020, shortly after his 18th birthday. After 64 appearances (six goals), promotion in 2012 and direct relegation, he decided to move to SC Freiburg after three years. “For me it’s like coming home. I had great discussions with those responsible and now I want to help ensure that we play a good second half of the season,” said Klaus, who played 128 games for Düsseldorf in four years, in which he contributed 18 goals and 23 assists.
Klaus replacement: Fortuna Düsseldorf brings Kwarteng from VfL Bochum
Fortuna presented Moritz-Broni Kwarteng as a replacement for Klaus on Monday. The offensive player is on loan from VfL Bochum until the end of the season, where he is under contract until 2027. The Rhinelanders also secured a purchase option. Kwarteng had missed pre-season preparation for the Revierklub after suffering a knee injury due to pubic bone irritation and only played seven times for 165 minutes in the first half of the season.
“The departure of Felix Klaus gives us the opportunity to sign Moritz Kwarteng, a player we were interested in a year and a half ago. At that time he understandably chose a Bundesliga club. Now it suits both sides and we are looking forward to Momo, whose profile offers us interesting new options for our offensive game,” said sports director Klaus Allofs. In the summer of 2023, Bochum paid 1.1 million euros for Kwarteng to 1. FC Magdeburg, but he was unable to prevail.
