Second division team Fortuna Düsseldorf lends offensive player Danny Schmidt to third division club Rot-Weiss Essen. The attacking midfielder should receive more appearances at fourth-placed promotion candidate RWE until the summer. The 22-year-old played 13 games for Fortuna this season, but was only in the starting line-up twice. A purchase option is not part of the agreement.

“The most important thing for Danny is to gain regular match practice and develop further. He now has the opportunity to do this at a good level at Rot-Weiss Essen. RWE is an ambitious club. With his performance, Danny can help achieve the goals for the season,” said sports director Sven Mislintat.

Schmidt explained: “I’m excited for Rot-Weiss Essen and I’m really looking forward to the start of the second half of the season. I really like the way RWE plays. This power football suits me perfectly. The team has already done an excellent job in the first half of the season. Now we want to step on the gas together in preparation so that we can continue to attack in the second half of the season. I want to do my part in the coming months to ensure that we can give the great fans here on Hafenstrasse many experiences of success. I’m happy to be here now, Getting to know the team in training camp and having a strong rest of the season with them.”
