A year ago, Red Bull Carlos Sainz flashed when it came to a possible successor to Sergio Perez. The Spaniard looked for a new team for his announced at Ferrari and also asked Red Bull, but: “Red Bull didn’t want me,” he recently revealed in a podcast.
In 2026, however, a new option could arise, because if Max Verstappen left the team towards Mercedes, the racing team needs a top -class replacement. But Sainz will probably not be. Because confronted with this question, says Sainz: “First of all: what they refer to at the moment looks like rumors.”
“I don’t know how much of it really makes,” he doesn’t want to participate in any speculation. But if there is really something to do, there is another obstacle. “Williams knows that I am committed to the next two years – and, even if the situation is allowed,” emphasizes Sainz.
Means: Sainz does not intend to break his contract – at least he says that to the outside world. “I believe in the path we have taken and I am very convinced of my decision,” he clarifies.
After moving from Ferrari to Williams, Sainz still has some acclimatization difficulties, but so far he has been satisfied with the season of the racing team. Williams is currently in fifth place in the designer World Cup and is therefore behind the top teams Best of the Rest – Sainz couldn’t have wished more.
“For me, performance was always the most important thing – and it is there,” he emphasizes. “I see good things to come, and as far as the performance of this year’s car is concerned, Williams even exceeded my expectations for 2025.”
The Spaniard is convinced that if Williams get everything together, then he and Albon should end up in the driver’s ranking in positions eight and nine – or seven and eight. “But we are not yet so far to implement everything on a weekend. That is why we – both me and the team – get out of what the car would have deserved.”
“But I’m not worried because everyone in the team knows and we all work together,” said Sainz. “Even if everything currently seems very frustrating and difficult to cope with – there were twelve races with many ups and downs – I am confident about our course and the direction in which we control.”
