Former track returns to the racing calendar

For several years, the Turkish Grand Prix was part of the Formula 1 racing circuit. Now the course is returning.
The Turkish Grand Prix returns for five years from the 2027 season. The Turkish presidential office announced this on Friday, and an official confirmation of the racing series followed shortly afterwards.
A launch event was held at the Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul on Friday. This is reported by the AFP news agency. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali and FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem were present.
The Istanbul Park Circuit was already part of the Formula 1 calendar between 2005 and 2011. In the Corona years 2020 and 2021, Istanbul returned at short notice when the calendar of the “premier class” was reorganized.
The places on the Formula 1 calendar are highly competitive. The series is therefore introducing a rotation system for some races. From next season, Spa and Barcelona will alternate. Germany was last there in 2020 with the Nürburgring. There is interest from Hockenheim – but there is no concrete perspective emerging.
24 races were planned for the current season. The events in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were canceled due to the war in the Middle East.
