The Formula 1 racing team Mercedes also drew a positive conclusion after the second day of testing. The W17 driven by George Russell and Kimi Antonelli is a real long-running favorite at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Even after its second day of testing in Barcelona, Mercedes is extremely satisfied with the result.
On Wednesday, George Russell sat a total of 92 laps in the new W17, as the racing team announced. The Brit mainly drove on the hard C1 tires. The fourth place in the World Championship has already completed 187 laps, as he was able to drive his new company car around the track for a long time on Monday.
Kimi Antonelli was no less hard-working, completing 91 laps. On his first day of testing he completed 56 laps; on Tuesday the team sat out so as not to have any problems with the rain. If you add them all together, the Silver Arrows have already completed 334 laps – and therefore over 1,500 kilometers.
F1 star Russell: Only drive when it stays dry
Russell summed up with satisfaction: “From a reliability perspective, everything went relatively smoothly today, which is good for our overall program. This test is about putting kilometers on the car and making sure everything works as intended. That was the case today as Kimi and I were able to complete a large number of laps again.”
However, little can be derived from the times, also because the track temperature in the morning was “in the low single digits”.
Mercedes now has one test day free, and each of the eleven racing teams can drive out three times within the five days. “We still have another day of testing ahead of us, which may take place tomorrow but depends on the weather. We still have a lot to do and are well placed to race on Thursday, but we will only do this if we are sure it will stay dry,” said Russell.
