In the coming Formula 1 season, fans and those responsible will have to get used to some changes. Among other things, the Red Bull sister racing team AlphaTauri is getting a new name – and another team will also have a different name, as it has now announced.
In the last two seasons, Sebastian Vettel’s former racing team, which was followed by Fernando Alonso in 2023 and joined by long-running favorite Lance Stroll, drove around the world’s Formula 1 tracks under the quite ambitious name ‘Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team’.
Due to the entry of the oil company Aramco in 2022, the previous name (Aston Martin Cognizant F1 Team) had become even longer. Now there is a shortening again.
As Aston Martin announced, the Saudi Arabian oil production company will be the sole title sponsor of the British racing team from 2024. The new partnership is scheduled to last five years. New name: ‘Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team’
“We are very pleased to become the team’s exclusive title partner,” said Aramco official Nabeel A. Al-Jama’. “Since partnering with the team in 2022, we have seen the team make significant progress and have celebrated some very special moments, including eight podium finishes this season.”
“The future of the team is bright and today’s news reinforces our long-term commitment to Aston Martin, where Aramco’s expertise and technology can contribute to the car’s advanced performance,” the Aramco vice president continued.
How well will Aston Martin be involved in Formula 1 from 2026?
Things will get exciting by the 2026 season at the latest: Aramco then wants to “provide the best technology to deliver advanced fuels and lubricants” that will help Aston Martin to be at the forefront at the start of the new engine regulations and with its new engine partner Honda is.
Team owner Lawrence Stroll was pleased about the extension of the collaboration for another five years, which he described as “clear evidence of our shared ambitions”.
Aston Martin finished fifth in the constructors’ championship last season. In 2024 the team will start with the unchanged driver pairing of Alonso and Stroll.
