The teams in Formula 1 have placed great value on promoting young talent for years. One racing team has now even included an eleven-year-old in its program.
If Formula 1 Team Williams has its way, supporting the next generation of motorsport cannot begin soon enough. As the British officially announced on Tuesday, Will Green, who is just eleven years old, will be accepted as the newest member of the Driver Academy.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity at Williams,” the young racing driver is quoted as saying in the F1 racing team’s statement. The youngster’s dreams are big: Will Green wants to drive in Formula 1 one day.
As a member of Williams’ youth division, Will Green will now “receive training to develop his skills and support his progression through the junior categories of motorsport”. Williams also hopes that the karts hope will take off in the next few years. The British proudly emphasized that they were paving the way for more and more “young talents into Formula 1”, most recently the Argentinian Franco Colapinto made it into the premier class of motorsport.
Role model Colapinto: Williams emphasizes “investment” in the future
“Investing in the next generation is at the heart of our approach at Williams and we are delighted to welcome Will to the Williams Racing Driver Academy,” emphasized sporting director Sven Smeets: “He has shown impressive consistency at this early stage of his career and made strong strides in his racing. We look forward to supporting Will’s development as he progresses through 2025 and beyond.”
Will Green started karting when he was just four years old. As a ten-year-old, he secured second place in the British IAME Mini Championship last year and even won the championship in 2024.
