The former Red Bull Pilot Sergio Pérez has for the first time confirmed that he could soon return to Formula 1. The Mexican currently has more than just a comeback option on the table. Helmut Marko considers one of them particularly realistic.

Sergio Pérez could possibly return to Formula 1 as a driver after only one year. This was confirmed by the Mexican in an interview on the official homepage of the premier class.

A decision has not yet been made, especially since he gave himself “six months” to explore all options, explained Pérez. “There are some interesting projects out there. Since Abu Dhabi, I have been contacted by some teams,” he confirmed at the same time that not only the cockpit with Formula 1 newcomer Cadillac could be a possible contact point for him.

According to Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko, the upcoming US team is a particularly promising option. “I think he has very good chances at Cadillac,” said the Grazer in an exclusive interview me RTL/NTV and sport.de. He also spoke to Checo on the phone, revealed Marko. “But it was only about tequila because he seems to have a very pleasant life at the moment,” joked the 81-year-old.

Pérez: Formula 1 return is linked to conditions

Which teams contacted the Mexican have not made it clear. But what Pérez reveals: “We talk to some parties. As soon as I know all my options, I make a decision.”

At all costs, the ex-Red Bull pilot made it clear, but he would not return.

“For me it is clear that I only come back if the project makes sense and it is something I can enjoy.” Due to his involuntary break, he noticed how much he missed the “normal life”. “That’s why I need the motivation to fully prescribe the F1.”

Pérez did not expect Red Bull-Aus

The 35-year-old also recorded a very interesting statement with a view to his release at Red Bull Racing last season. According to his statement, the decision for him came out of nowhere.

“Everything happened very late in the season. I didn’t really expect it to happen. It only became clearer when we were in Qatar,” said Pérez. On site he discussed with the team and finally discussed the conditions for his contract termination. “Everything happened very quickly,” he looked back at the days, which at least temporarily ended his Formula 1 career.
