Car on fire: Hülkenberg misses Miami sprint
May 2, 2026 – 6:25 p.mReading time: 1 min.
His first season in the Audi continues to be disappointing for Nico Hülkenberg. He wasn’t even able to take part in the sprint in Miami – but he delivered spectacular pictures.
The next setback for Nico Hülkenberg: The only German Formula 1 driver missed the sprint race in Miami due to technical problems with his Audi. On the way to the starting grid, a lot of smoke rose from the rear of his car. When flames even formed, Hülkenberg immediately stopped his car and climbed out of the cockpit.
“We already had problems in the pits,” said Audi’s new racing director Allan McNish on Sky: “We thought it had been sorted out.” The Briton did not provide any more detailed information about the problems, but according to Sky information, participation in the qualifying in the evening (10 p.m. CEST in the live ticker on t-online) should not be in danger.
For Hülkenberg, his debut season with Audi is not going according to plan; after three races he still has no championship points to his name. The difficulties before the start of the race are also a recurring problem for the German racing team. Hülkenberg had already had to watch the opener in Australia, and his teammate Gabriel Bortoleto then missed the Chinese Grand Prix with technical problems.
