Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur is impressed by the interaction between Charles Leclerc and Formula 1 record world champion Lewis Hamilton.
“The positive is that we work together as a team and both drivers – we have a good atmosphere,” said the Frenchman on Friday. But so far the Scuderia has been running its expectations. “I still don’t have the feeling that we can get the best out of the car,” added Vasseur.
Neither Leclerc nor Hamilton were able to drive to the podium in the first four Grand Prix of the year. Only Hamilton’s surprising sprint victory in China let the car’s potential flash.
“The ingredients are all there. It’s like cooking, you have to bring everything together,” said Vasseur. So far, this has not worked regularly, especially Hamilton still has adjustment problems with its new company car.
Under pressure, he “easily falls back into his old habits,” said the 40-year-old last. No wonder: in 2025 the Briton drove for a team other than Mercedes for the first time since 2012. But he wanted to work on himself. He gets support from his crew. “We are always trying to do the best for the drivers,” said Vasseur.
Ferrari boss Vasseur remains calm
Leclerc sees Ferrari on the right track despite the weak start of the season. “I think we take steps in the right direction,” he said. Whether it is enough for the podium on Sunday (7:00 p.m./Sky) at the Grand Prix of Saudi Arabia in Dschidda, “but I think we have our chances”.
Vasseur wants to “remain calm”, but still warns the high expectations of his drivers. A small mistake can already make up “five or six positions”, he said.
