Formula 1 | For a good cause: Haaland colleague challenges Sebastian Vettel

Formula 1 star Sebastian Vettel has been working intensively for environmental protection for several years and sets a good example. In the eyes of a Norwegian national soccer player, the Heppenheimer could do even more. For this reason, the Aston Martin driver has now been given a new challenge.

In a video message to the Formula 1 star, Norway international Morten Thorsby said: “Hey Sebastian. It’s very inspiring to see your commitment to sustainability. I read on your website that the clock is ticking and we need to find solutions, to help the planet. I totally agree with you and believe that athletes can be part of the solution.”

Thorsby himself has set an example in the past and launched the “We Play Green” initiative. In the meantime, he has been able to win Bayern star Serge Gnabry and Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku as ambassadors.

What exactly does his solution look like? First of all, athletes should start with themselves and commit to a “green turn”, the Norwegian demanded. He also explained that athletes must also be given a platform where they can spread their messages. “I try to do that with football players.” Now he is challenging Sebastian Vettel to do the same for racing drivers.

Vettel challenge for Thorsby

Confronted with the video message by the Norwegian TV station, Vettel said: “He challenges me, but I think it’s a challenge for all of us. We all live on this planet and enjoy its beauty. That should be the first thing we care and what we fight for. Our future is threatened, the future of future generations is threatened. I too believe that we can be part of the solution.”

According to his own statement, Vettel is already working on ensuring that environmental protection also plays a greater role in Formula 1. The Heppenheimer does not want to be satisfied with that.

And the four-time player also has a new task for the Norwegian international. “That’s my challenge for Morten,” said Vettel: “He should work to reduce single-use plastic on the training grounds and around the games.”

Vettel at a loss

Many people still don’t understand how urgent this issue is and how big the problem is, Vettel warned: “And it threatens everyone who lives on this planet. […] I can’t understand how people can’t understand this. But that’s part of the problem and part of the challenge.”

Formula 1, like other sporting and major events, is another part of the problem, explained Vettel. “A lot of people come to be entertained. And that’s fine too. But I think you can do better.”
