Formula 1 is waking up from its involuntary break and will resume operations in Miami in a few days. Carlo Santi, who initially only got his job as race engineer from Lewis Hamilton on a temporary basis, will also be there on the Ferrari pit wall, but will now stay on for the time being.

Ferrari has postponed an important decision in Lewis Hamilton’s team for the time being. As the newspaper “Corriere della Sera” reports, Carlo Santi will act as race engineer for the seven-time world champion both at the upcoming race in Miami and beyond.

Santi has developed a “significant connection” with Hamilton in the races so far and will probably work at the Brit’s side for “a little longer,” it is said. Other options are being examined by Scuderia, but they currently see no great need to act in this regard, the paper writes.

Ferrari withdraws Hamilton engineer

Santi took over the position at the start of the season after Ferrari removed and transferred Riccardo Adami. There were differences between Adami and Hamilton in the 2025 season that were noticeable and audible on the radio. In mid-January of this year, Ferrari announced the Italian’s retirement from the pit wall.

During the first test drives this year, Hamilton was looked after on an interim basis by Bryan Bozzi, the “man in Charles Leclerc’s ear”. Santi was already on the radio during the tests in Bahrain. Hamilton obviously got along well with Kimi Räikkönen’s former race engineer. At least the duo haven’t had any verbal arguments on the radio so far.

This could also be related to the fact that things are going much better for the Brit and the Scuderia this year. After three races, the Reds are the second strongest force in the premier class behind Mercedes. Before the season resumes, Leclerc is in third place in the drivers’ championship, Hamilton is fourth.

Unlike last year, the Brit was already on the podium. In China he finished third. In 2025 he remained without a podium finish for the first and only time in his career.
