Formula 1 | Ferrari lets the cat out of the bag: That’s the name of the new car from Leclerc and Sainz

Formula 1 starts the new season on March 20th. Then the opening race in Sakhir (Bahrain) is on the agenda. In the coming days and weeks, however, the new cars of the F1 teams will be presented first. The traditional racing team Ferrari has revealed the name of its new racing car at least on Tuesday.

The 68th car to be built by Ferrari will be called the F1-75. The name of the Scuderia refers to this year’s 75th anniversary. On March 12, 1947, Enzo Ferrari started the engine of the 125 S for the first time in Maranello.

“As we celebrate the 75th anniversary of our production car leaving the factory this year, we honor that spirit by naming our F1 challenger the 2022 Ferrari F1-75,” Chairman John Elkann said on the company’s website.

“Formula 1, with its competitive and innovative spirit, has always been a fundamental part of Ferrari and has driven the technological development of our road cars,” the statement reads.

The F1-75 will be on display for the first time on February 17 when it is presented online at 2 p.m. The drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will then contest the first test drives on February 23rd to 25th at the first test session in Barcelona. However, the practice driving in the Catalan capital will take place to the exclusion of the TV stations and spectators.

The spectators will only be taken on board during the test drives from March 10th to 12th. The tests a week before the start of the season then also take place on the Bahrain International Circuit, where the first race also takes place.

With the predecessor of the F1-75, the SF21, the Scuderia finished third in the Formula 1 constructors’ championship. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were able to claim five podium places together. While Leclerc finished seventh in the world championship standings, Sainz impressed in his first Ferrari year as fifth overall.
