Fernando Alonso is now 44 years old. Nevertheless, the Spaniard doesn’t want to know anything about ending his career after the current season. Aston Martin would also like to continue working with the Formula 1 legend.

Aston Martin has to endure a tough season. After 18 races, the traditional British racing team has only collected 68 points and is only in seventh place in the constructors’ championship. Although the form curve – especially for Fernando Alonso – has recently shown an upward trend, the focus is already on the coming season.

But the coming year will not be the last for the 2005 and 2006 world champion. Aston Martin team boss Andy Cowell clearly rejected any speculation to the English-language edition of “Motorsport.com”: “I haven’t had any discussions with him about it.”

Will Fernando Alonso quit after the next Formula 1 season?

“Our conversations last year were all about 2026. Lance (Stroll; editor’s note) is the same way. That means a difficult 2025 season, but we are focusing all of our energy and resources on 2026,” the 56-year-old continued.

Alonso, two-time world champion and the most experienced driver in Formula 1 history with 419 Grand Prix starts, has been waiting for a victory for 218 races. The 44-year-old recently explained in an interview with the Spanish newspaper “AS” that the new technical regulations would play a decisive role in his future and that he was flirting with retirement after the 2026 season.

“If the car is weak, I might drive another year to finish on a positive note. If the car is strong, 2026 will probably be my last year,” said Alonso.

Cowell, however, certainly assumes that the Spaniard could stay with the team for longer: “I suspect Fernando is of course thinking beyond the end of 2026 and thinking about what comes after that. […] Fernando has shown that he is an exceptional competitor. His age doesn’t seem to be a problem for him, but rather a strength.”
