Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, abbreviated as IBK, became president of the African country in 2013. He was ousted in a putsch on August 18, 2020 after months of anti-government demonstrations. The president was accused of corruption and incompetence in the face of insecurity in the country.

Keita died Sunday morning in the Malian capital Bamako. The cause of death was not stated.
