Former national goalkeeper Reck leaves regional leagues

Oldenburg (dpa) – The former national goalkeeper Oliver Reck will leave the regional football league team SSV Jeddeloh II after this season after two and a half years as coach.

It was “mutually agreed” not to extend the contract that expires in the summer, the Lower Saxony announced. Reck’s goal is “to continue to work under professional conditions,” the 57-year-old is quoted in the statement.

The former Werder and Schalke goalkeeper took over the village club from near Oldenburg during the winter break of the 2019/20 season. Shortly thereafter, the coronavirus pandemic began. “I’ve achieved my goals with the club in the two and a half years here,” said Reck. “We have had the challenge of staying up in the league every season and have mastered this task together. We will be able to do this again this year.”

The two-time German champion with Werder Bremen has already coached Fortuna Düsseldorf and MSV Duisburg in the professional division. Reck was also part of the coaching staff at FC Schalke 04 for several years.
