He played for many years at top European clubs and alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. Now Nani is calling it quits – with emotional words.
One of Cristiano Ronaldo’s long-time teammates in the Portuguese national team is quitting. Offensive player Nani (38), who scored three goals when winning the 2016 European Championship, is ending his career in the middle of the season.
“It’s been an incredible journey and I would like to thank everyone who has helped me and accompanied me through the ups and downs of a career that has spanned more than 20 years and given me so many unforgettable memories,” wrote the 112-timer National player (24 goals) on social networks.
Like Cristiano Ronaldo, who is still active, Nani was trained at Sporting Lisbon. From 2007 to 2014 he stormed for Manchester United, where he also played with “CR7” for two years. This was followed by stints at Fenerbahçe Istanbul, Lazio Rome, FC Valencia and Melbourne Victory, among others. Nani was most recently under contract with CF Estrela Amadora in his home country.
“Now it’s time to start a new chapter and focus on new goals and dreams. We’ll see each other again soon,” Nani continued, thanking his former clubs in five languages: “Obrigado. Thank you. Gracias . Grace.
