Peter Wennink, the former CEO of ASML, thinks Europe can reduce the tech area with the United States. According to him, simpler regulations and a better -working capital market are needed for that. “If we get those things well and collaborate enough, we can really create great innovations in Europe,” he says in an interview with the Belgian Dagblad De Tijd.

He believes that Europe, because of the import duties announced by US President Donald Trump last month for many trading partners, should focus more on companies and sectors on which other countries can depend, such as AI. “I sometimes hear that we have missed the train. Of course that is not true. There is still so much to gain.” He emphasizes that Europe has strong companies, beautiful universities and a lot of knowledge and creativity.
