Edin Terzic will be the coach of the Spanish first division football team Athletic Bilbao next season. The club confirmed this in an official statement on Tuesday.
There had already been media reports about the impending agreement in April. Terzic, coach at Borussia Dortmund for many years, will receive a contract with the Basques until June 30, 2028 and will be introduced at the beginning of the new season.
Terzic succeeds Valverde in Bilbao
At Bilbao, Terzic will succeed Ernesto Valverde. His departure at the end of the season has been certain for a long time.
Cup victory with Dortmund and in Champions League final
The 43-year-old Terzic quit BVB after the defeat in the 2024 Champions League final against Real Madrid (0-2). Most recently he worked as a TV expert.
Terzic came to BVB in 2010 as a youth coach. After stints as an assistant at Besiktas Istanbul and West Ham United, he returned to Dortmund in 2018 as assistant coach to Lucien Favre. After his dismissal, he took over the team as head coach and won the DFB Cup in 2021. BVB then signed Marco Rose, and Terzic started his second term in office for the 2022/23 season.
