Alec John Such, one of the founders and former bassist of the band Bon Jovi, has died at the age of 70. His former band members shared the news on Twitter on Sunday. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

“Our hearts are broken by the news of the death of our good friend Alec John Such,” the American rock group said. “Alec had a very important role in founding the band. To be honest, we found each other through him.”

Such was in Bon Jovi from 1983 to 1994 and played on hits like Living on a prayer. In an interview with the newspaper Asbury Park Press he said in 2000 that he thought it was getting too much and that he felt “burned out”. “It felt like work and I didn’t want to work. The reason I ever wanted to be in a band was because I didn’t want to work.”

Such briefly returned to the band in 2018, when Bon Jovi was inducted into the rock and roll Hall of Fame.
