Former Ajax player Jody Lukoki (29) passed away

Jody Lukoki has passed away at the age of 29. Sources around the attacker, who was trained by Ajax, report this to De Telegraaf. The cause of death is still unknown.

FC Twente, Lukoki’s last employer, has responded to the death. “It’s unbelievable. At this young age. So sad. This is really terrible. We sympathize with his family and friends,” said technical director Jan Streuer.

Lukoki went through Ajax’s youth academy and made his debut in the first team under coach Frank de Boer. He made his debut in the Classic against Feyenoord. After that he would play more than thirty official matches for Ajax. However, a definitive breakthrough was not possible for the wing attacker.

Via a rental period to Cambuur, he ended up at FC Twente via PEC Zwolle, Ludogorets, Malatayaspor. There Lukoki suffered a torn cruciate ligament, which meant that he never played a game. His contract in Enschede was terminated in February, because he was convicted of domestic violence.
