In that one year, more than 10 million hectares are lost, countless animal species are pushed towards extinction and huge CO2 is released.
These are not administrative details, but irreparable consequences for the planet on which we all depend.
Many companies have already invested in deforestation -free chains. So it is possible. Postponing rewards laggers and punishes precursors who take responsibility. By choosing a delay, the committee actually gives a license to industries that set a profit over forests and biodiversity.
Europe must show leadership and prove that protection of our earth is above bureaucracy. Because forests grow slowly, but disappear super fast.
Every month extra delay increases the damage that future generations must bear.
