Foreign Ministry announced the absence of real prospects for disconnecting Russia from SWIFT – RBC

The possibility of imposing sanctions, including disconnecting Russia from SWIFT, announced in mid-December Bloomberg citing knowledgeable sources. According to the agency, the administration of US President Joe Biden is trying to get the European Union to agree on a broad package of sanctions that will be introduced in the event of Russia’s “invasion” of Ukraine. At the same time, the interlocutors Bloomberg clarified that a number of the proposed measures, including disconnection from SWIFT, are perceived by the parties as “extremely problematic”.

First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov, in an interview with RBC, also doubted that there are real possibilities of disconnecting Russia from SWIFT, since it will be difficult for European countries to contact a country outside the payment system. “How, then, can you pay for energy resources that are continuously flowing to Western Europe? Carry cash in suitcases? ” – asked the senator.
