Where in Drenthe the Easter fires could largely continue at the last minute, that is not the case in Friesland. In that province there is still an increased risk of natural fires and therefore the Easter fires were banned throughout Friesland. Yet last night it went wrong at most two kilometers over the Drents/Friese provincial border.
On the edge of the Fochteloërveen near Fochteloo, a meter -high Easter bump was built on the Helomaweg. Despite the Frisian heating ban, the bump went up in flames last night.
Local residents saw the flames of a considerable distance and would have alerted the fire brigade. Whether measures will follow against the initiators of the illegal Easter fire is currently unknown.
