The wind turbine would enter the rural Waterpolder, close to the Dutch border. Mayor Joachim Coens mentioned earlier that such a windmill would not fit in with that rural environment.
But now it appears that the project developer is withdrawing the application. The wind turbine would come too close to habitation if the Minister of Environment Jo Brouns would apply his recently announced rules on wind turbines. Those rules are not yet official – a windmill of that size should be more than 600 meters from the houses – but the developer now wants to look at the file internally first.
