For Marco Sturm, the long -cherished dream of post as a head coach in the NHL, the best ice hockey league in the world.
The former national coach will take over the Boston Bruins for the next season, for which he had played as a striker from 2005 to 2010. The six-time Stanley Cup winner Boston announced the obligation of the Dingolfinger on Thursday.
It is a premiere – never before had a German in the NHL worked as a head coach.
“We are proud to appoint Marco as the 30th head coach of the Bruins and welcome him to Boston”said General Manager Don Sweeney. “Marco impressed us with his preparation, clarity and passion every step.” Sturm’s career has him to one “Versatile coaches who deserve this opportunity”.

“I feel incredibly honored to be appointed head coach of the Boston Bruins”said Sturm: “Boston has always had a special place in my heart and I know how much this team of the city and our fans means. I felt this passion as a player and can’t wait to stand behind the bank.”
From the west coast back to the east coast
After his active career, Sturm took over the job as a national coach at the German Ice Hockey Association (DEB) in 2015, and in 2018 the 46-year-old led the national team to the silver medal at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. In 2018, Sturm moved back to the USA and was an assistant coach at Los Angeles Kings for four years. In 2022 he took over the coaching office at Ontario Reign, the Farm team of the franchise from California.
Now the long -time international from the west coast goes back to the east coast. Sturm played in the NHL alongside Boston for the San Jose Sharks, Kings, Washington Capitals, Vancouver Canucks and Florida Panthers. His last career station was the Cologne sharks from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) in the 2012/13 season.
