A ‘wanted new -build neighborhood’, ‘A nice location in Oosterhout’ and ‘Ready for the world of tomorrow’. For example, six owner -occupied homes in the Loevensteinlaan in Oosterhout are recommended by brokers. Remarkable, because a deadly shooting took place in that street at the end of March. Are the residents therefore leave or is there something else going on?
In broad daylight, Schoten shot at the Loevensteinlaan in Oosterhout at the end of March. A Turkish and Moroccan Dutchman (32), the latter had just been sentenced to eleven months in prison for drug trafficking, died. A 25-year-old man of Moroccan-Dutch descent dies some time later from the injuries he sustained.

It caused a large shock nearby. That is why the municipality of Oosterhout has been investing a lot recently to have the peace in the Slotjes-Midden district. For example, Mayor Gerdo van Grootheest spoke with local residents and visited the various mosques where the victims came. A neighborhood broker with a cargo bike also drove through the neighborhood to start a conversation with local residents.

Despite that investment in the liveability in the neighborhood, no fewer than six homes have been for sale in the Oosterhoutse street for seven weeks. That can be seen on the Funda house site. Whether the residents leave for the deadly shooting, it can be speculated about that. “The municipality of course has no insight into the motives of individual homeowners in this neighborhood and why they want to move,” says Mayor of Grootheest.
“The move has nothing to do with the shooting in the neighborhood,” says a resident of a corner house in Loevensteinlaan. His semi-detached house has been offered for sale since 2 May by Klijsen Makelaars and advisers. Because the residents found a suitable company home elsewhere, they have put their house in the Lovensteinlaan on sale. The neighbors, where the shutters are down, also have a ‘for sale’ sign in the front garden.
“The reason for sale is private.”
A modern townhouse with sunny south -facing garden also came on sale in May. It was sold under reservation within a month. Earlier, Kin Makelaars Dongen was instructed to sell the house, but the broker does not want to say how much earlier and whether the sale is related to the fatal shooting at the end of March. “That’s private.” The residents were not at home on Wednesday afternoon.

A few doors further a house is also for sale. “We bought a new house a year and a half ago,” says the resident, who is a bit rumbling with her keys. The shooting in her street was therefore not the reason to move, she emphasizes.
Van de Water Makelaars Breda sells two homes in the street. The broker could not tell since when the houses are on sale and what the reason is. The residents also did not respond, since they were not at home on Wednesday afternoon. Both houses have only been offered on Funda for two weeks.
In the meantime there is also a breakthrough in the case. On Tuesday night, two Swedish men (24 and 28) and a 28-year-old woman were arrested for involvement in the shooting, the police reported on Wednesday morning. The three Swedish suspects are in limitation and are only allowed to have contact with a lawyer. It is not yet known when they will be handed over to the Netherlands.
