Horst Hrubesch takes over the position of women’s national coach on an interim basis from Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, who is ill.

The association announced the 72-year-old’s return to the German Football Association (DFB) on Saturday (October 7, 2023). Hrubesch had already looked after the national team from March to November 2018.

Britta Carlson, who temporarily led the team after the World Cup in Australia, will support Hrubesch as an assistant coach alongside Thomas Nörenberg, who like Hrubesch comes from Hamburger SV.

The DFB stated that Hrubesch’s comeback was successful “With a view to the hopefully further progressing recovery of Martina Voss-Tecklenburg and taking into account the sporting development”. Voss-Tecklenburg, who has a contract until 2025, has been on sick leave for several weeks.

Hrubesch: “One matter of the heart”

Hrubesch will continue to serve as director of the HSV youth performance center outside of the DFB courses and international matches, Hamburger SV said. “For me it’s a matter of the heart. I didn’t have to think long about the request”said Hrubesch in the HSV announcement. “I’m looking forward to working together with the team. Together we will try to develop a good starting position for Olympic qualification in the remaining games of the Nations League.”emphasized the former European champion.
