When there is an increased risk of wildfires, which is currently the case, when a wildfire is reported, two of these vehicles drive out from different directions to ‘encapsulate’ the fire. If the fire becomes too large, the fire brigade from surrounding regions will assist.
Kennemerland: watch out for dune fires
According to a spokesperson for the Kennemerland safety region, the Kennemerland Fire Department and Schiphol Fire Department have offered help to their colleagues who are now fighting fires in ‘t Harde. This has not yet been invoked.
The safety region says it is well prepared for wildfires, especially when it comes to dune fires. “With the increased risk that now applies, it means that we are responding with more and specialized vehicles.” This concerns special tankers for dune areas and smaller, agile pick-up trucks.
North Holland North: Also watch out for dune fires
For the time being, no fire brigade from the North Holland North region has traveled to Epe for support.
Just like in Kennemerland, extra attention is paid to dune fires in North Holland during dry periods like this. The safety region writes on the site that the fire brigade pays extra attention to the accessibility of high-risk areas and the presence of fire-fighting water and escape routes.
The fire brigade asks visitors to nature reserves to pay close attention, for example when throwing away cigarette butts or glassware. Glass on which the sun shines can act as a magnifying glass and cause a fire.
You also have to pay attention to where you park your car. The exhaust and catalytic converter can become hot and cause a fire in tall, dry grass.
