Clear thing for the FC Bayern footballers in the DFB Cup final: Before the sold-out house in Cologne-Müngersdorf, the German champion Werder Bremen clearly defeated 4: 2 (2: 1). Three times goal scorer in front of over 45,000 spectators: national player Lea Schüller.
“It was an outstanding game,” cheered Lea Schüller in front of the ARD microphone after the final whistle. “Today we will really celebrate,” announced the 27-year-old.
DFB Cup final in Cologne – and VfL Wolfsburg is not there. This is a very unusual scenario in German women’s football, because the wolves recently won ten cup titles in a row. So there was a festival in the Cologne-Müngersdorfer Stadium before kick-off: there will be a new title holder.
And also clear: anything but the overall second cup title for the Munich women (after 2012) would be a fist thick surprise. After all, the Bayern players dominated the Bundesliga season and have already been determined as a master. Werder Bremen, on the other hand, was able to establish himself in the middle of the Bundesliga – the relegation question was not able to do just as little as with the fight for the front places.
Bayern stars take the initiative
FC Bayern went into the match in front of a sold-out house as a top favorite and had no problems with this role. The team, with star players such as Pernille Harder, Lea Schüller, Klara Bühl and Giulia Gwinn, also took over the game control. And soon celebrated the first goal in bright sunshine.
Gwinn prevailed on the right outer track. Her flank slipped, crashed into the right cord triangle, from where the ball sailed on the head of Lea Schüller. And of course the international cannot be taken away. From twelve meters she headed one to 1-0.
Bavaria opportunities every minute
The path for the Munich women was paved early and the Bayern players subsequently left no doubt about their ambitions: on that day they would not let the butter take the bread here. Ball and opponents were let go, there were scores.
In the 13th minute, Gwinn missed the 2-0 twelve meters in front of the goal, when she thundered the ball over the crossbar. Four minutes later, Schüller had a lot of green on the left, failed with her shot that was too weak but Werder’s goalkeeper Livia Peng. Harder put the rebound ball over the gate.
Simon Frei – Bavaria achieves the 2-0
Adders from Munich women, who soon added the 2-0: Jovana Damnjanović moved over to the penalty area before she pushed through Klara Bühl. It ran down to the baseline, skillfully put back to Carolin Simon, who had no trouble to carry out 2-0 from eleven meters.
The chances continued to piling up afterwards, but in the feeling of this clear thing, the favorites from the south of the Republic left so much lightly.
Schlendrian leads to the connection goal
The Bavarian Schlendrian even led to an excellent counter chance for Bremen: Tuana Mahmoud received a lot of space on her right side and was not attacked. She delayed. Then put on measure for Rieke Dieckmann, who shortened and shortened with a tight shot from 13 meters to 2-1. A totally astonishing goal, because not to be expected from the game, for the Munich women.
Would this game really be exciting again? At least the Bremeners tried to play a little more forward in the second section. The big opportunities were still with Bayern. Klara Bühl would have had to make 3-1 in the 55th minute when she pulled with a ball from left inside, but shot an opponent 15 meters in front of the goal. Seven minutes later, Pernille missed Harder when she could pull off completely bare 13 meters in front of the goal, but shot down keeper Peng.
Schüller meets beautiful and double
So Lea Schüller had to do it. In the 65th minute, Sarah Zadrazil flanked butter soft from the left and Schüller climbed the highest in the center – she headed beautifully to 3: 1.
The 27-year-old had now found a taste and went one step further. From half -left she penetrated into the penalty area in the 79th minute and fled the ball to the network for 4: 1. That was of course the final decision – Bayern had their desired double in their pocket. Even if Clarissa Mühlhaus with a great free kick from 20 meters still took 4: 2 in added time.
