Footballer Özil awaits long rehabilitation after successful back surgery
Former German international Mesut Özil has had surgery on his back. The 33-year-old midfielder of the Turkish Basaksehir had announced the intervention via social media on Friday and came up with an update on Monday. “The operation went well. Thank you for your messages and prayers. May God bless you,” Ozil, a star player for many years at Real Madrid and later Arsenal, wrote on Instagram.
Ozil had already announced on Friday that he would undergo surgery “to finally become pain-free again”. He also reported that the rehabilitation will take a long time and that the fans of Basaksehir will not see him for the time being.
Ozil had switched from Fenerbahçe to Basaksehir, the Turkish champion of 2020, last summer. This season, he only made four substitutes for his new club.
